Iran short 'The Rock' wins award in Russia

Iran short doc 'The Rock' has won award at the 2018 Baikal International Film Festival in Russia.

Directed by Hamid Jafari, 'The Rock' has succeeded to receive Youth Jury award from the 17th edition of the film event.

The 20-minute documentary chosen as Iran's representative at the Oscars 2019 has so far attended several international festivals including the 15th Red Wasp International Film Festival in the US.

The short flick narrates the story of a woman who lives near the southwestern Iranian city of Ramhormoz.

Every day, she goes to the mountain with a sledgehammer and a crowbar in hand to break and smash the rocks so that she can sell to sustain her family.

Established in 2007, the Baikal International Film Festival was founded by the Union of Filmmakers of the Russian Federation and its Irkutsk regional branch and is held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Government of Irkutsk region.

The 17th edition of the festival was held September 21-25, 2018.
